Jamie Bell, already following up his star turn in Billy Elliot with World War II thriller Who Goes There? is set to continue the war theme with his next project. The precocious youngster is to play the lead in a new supernatural thriller set in the trenches of World War I. Bell will play Charlie Shakespeare, one of a group of eight British soldiers who find themselves trapped behind enemy lines, under attack from a ghostly assassin in the as-yet-untitled film. Screenwriter and first-time director Michael J. Bassett said of the film, currently going under the working title of Great War Project, “Initially I picked the trenches as a location simply because it seemed a good place to set the action. Then as I did more research… I realised that the war itself was the horror.” The film has a number of up-and-coming British stars involved, including Andy Serkis (Lord of The Rings), Laurence Fox (The Hole), and Hugo Speer (The Full Monty).
