For his next film, Jim Sheridan is looking to stage an Anthropoid reunion and adding in a little Bron-Hom flavour for good measure. He has the war movie's Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy locked in to star and Pierce Brosnan in talks to join them in based-on-truth prison break story H-Block.
The film is set against the real story of the Maze Prison breakout that happened in 1983. In the end, 38 IRA prisoners escaped from the maximum security prison, and only 19 were ever recaptured. Twenty guards were either stabbed or shot as the prisoners made their escape (one died) and the breakout became a huge source of propaganda for the terrorist organisation.
Murphy will be playing the head of the group of prisoners who, before the escape happens, has earned the respect of the guards and is trying to live a life of peace. Dornan is playing a prisoner and orderly who discovers the weaknesses of the prison's security and, while he's one of the last prisoners to agree to the escape, is vengeful on the way out. And Brosnan is wanted as the warden of the facility faced with the breakout.
Tony Devlin and Gavin McCloskey wrote the original version of the script and Sheridan is working on getting into to shooting shape with Nic Sheff.
