Poor old James Mangold. There he was, forced while making The Wolverine to point his expensive cameras at all those average-looking people. Our hearts, they break for him. Okay, so his cast is pretty much really, really ridiculously good looking, which was helpful when the director decided to shoot some portraits and post them to his Twitter account.
Shot on the final day of production, the pictures feature Hugh Jackman, Rila Fukushima (Yukio) and Tao Okamoto (Mariko) staring moodily into the lens as if it’s school picture day and their mums told them they have to.
Mangold has, like Marc Webb and Bryan Singer, been using Twitter to keep us all up to date as he makes the movie. The Wolverine finds Logan in pensive mood in Japan. There, he will fall in love and fight a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed. Or, as we like to call it, your average day in the Empire office. We just have more swords or at least more mutants.
Keep your eyes peeled for more Wolverine goodness in the future, especially the trailer, which hopefully won’t be too long coming now - assuming Mangold’s had time to approve one with all the Twittering. The film itself arrives on July 25.
