UPDATE: James Mangold has tweeted yet another picture from the set of The Wolverine, this time with the words "There's a world through that blast hole" alongside it. If you squint, you can just about make out... not that much at all, but it sure is intriguing.

Many film directors / producers / actors / best boys are tweeting teasing images and subtle hints to their upcoming productions these days, including Marc Webb with his enigmatic instgrams and here below, James Mangold with something resembling a still a high budget version of Springwatch, but in reality far more Wolverine-y.

Posted to the web with the words "A production snap from shooting a wood chopping scene in Omishima. We found an eight inch caterpillar that morning." it reveals that not only will there be a wood-chopping scene in the film - no prizes for guessing what he'll use to chop wood - but also that there are bumper-sized bugs on Japanese beaches.

It's not, it's fair enough to say, the most scintillating 'reveal' there's ever been, but with **The Wolverine **being such a highly anticipated Marvel outing, and no trailer to speak of as yet, we're going to have to take what we can get, such as these five other stills below.

The film, of course, sees Wolverine travel to Japan, where clashes with the Yashida crime family on behalf of love interest Mariko (Tao Okamoto). It's based on the classic Frank Miller / Chris Claremont comic run, and also stars Will Yun Lee as the Silver Samurai, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Rila Fukushima, Brian Tee and Svetlana Khodchenkova.

The Wolverine hits cinemas on July 26. Will it be the best there is at what it does? Let's hope so.
