He’s already taken on legends from the world of comic books (Logan), adventure movies (Indiana Jones 5) and real life motor racing (Le Mans 66) – and with his next project, director James Mangold is turning his attention towards an iconic Hollywood talent, Buster Keaton.
As reported in Deadline, Mangold and 20th Century Studios are currently developing a film based on the life of filmmaker and comedian Buster Keaton. Based on Marion Meade’s book Buster Keaton: Cut To The Chase, Mangold is set to both direct and produce, and the studio are currently in search of a writer to adapt Keaton’s story for the screen.
Keaton was a pioneer of physical comedy and silent movies, with his stunt work and set pieces in films such as The General and Sherlock Jr. going down in cinematic history. Mangold is no stranger to shooting action and stunts, and his previous work on Oscar-winning Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line shows he knows his stuff about telling the stories of real-life figures too. This project will be part of his first-look deal with 20th Century Studios, and the next big thing in his calendar after he completes Indy 5, which has almost finished filming.
