Look out, Bryan Singer: shots fired! Or maybe that should be torpedoes launched as, a couple of weeks after the X-Men director locked down a studio home for his version 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, The Wolverine's James Mangold has come aboard to direct Captain Nemo for Disney.

Yes, now two of the men who have directed Hugh Jackman as Wolverine are both going to be bringing a tale of Captain Nemo and his battle sub the Nautilus to screens. Mangold's version is one that the Mouse House has had in dry dock for ages, trying to hatch a new take on Nemo, and only finding frustration with the likes of David Fincher, who came close but dropped out and did Gone Girl instead.

Despite already making one take on the story back in 1954, Disney is hoping for an updated story that will take advantage of today's effects. Currently, Snakes On A Plane writer Sebastian Gutierrez is at work on the script, which Mangold will supervise.

And though this has Disney's backing, Singer is likely to launch first, because he's already preparing for his 20,000 Leagues, whereas Mangold is busy getting ready to make the third – and probably final – Wolverine film with Jackman.
