While his duties on Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 will keep him busy, James Gunn is still generating film projects. Actually, he’s digging out an older script he’s been hoping to make for a while and setting up The Belco Experiment with MGM.
And though he won’t be calling the shots himself, Gunn will be involved as a producer, with Wolf Creek man Greg McLean on directorial duties. McLean seems like a sound choice for a film that promises to be fully of bloody horror and dark humour. As Gunn teases the story in his Facebook page announcing the film, it’s about “the American Belco company in South America which is mysteriously sealed off at the beginning of a work day, and its employees are ordered to kill each other or be killed themselves. This starts an escalation of violence, where we discover the true nature of each and every Belco employee.”
And Gunn is happy that his cine-child is finally up and toddling towards production. “I cannot tell you how passionate and excited I am about this project! It’s a script I wrote a few years ago, for which I have always had a deep love. Believe it or not, it’s a film that first came to me in a dream, and I woke up and wrote the first draft in a two-week fugue state binge.”
McLean is now preparing to shoot the film this June in Bogota, Colombia, with Conjuring producer Peter Safran also involved. As for** Guardians 2**, expect Groot, Star-Lord and the rest to crash back into cinemas in April 2017.
