On the day that Matt Shakman's Fantastic Four: The First Steps starts shooting over at Marvel Studios, another major upcoming superhero movie marking the dawn of a new era for a legendary comic imprint on the big screen has just wrapped production. Yes folks, today DC Studios' co-head honcho James Gunn revealed that he has finished shooting his first DCU movie, Superman. "And that's a wrap," said Gunn in an emotional post shared on Instagram earlier this evening, going on to pay tribute to his cast and crew as he shared a new behind the scenes photo taken on the first week of filming on his hotly anticipated superhero movie. Check it out below:

"God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life," said Gunn — pictured in his post alongside cast and crew including his Man of Steel David Corenswet and Lex Luthor Nicholas Hoult in Svalbard, Norway — on finishing the shoot. "I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor. The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we’ve shared together on set - and for that I am forever grateful."

Precious little is known about the plot of Gunn's take on the Kryptonian superhero at this stage, though the Guardians Of The Galaxy helmsman has previously cited the likes of Richard Donner's Superman and comic runs like All-Star Superman, Grant Morrison's New 52 Action Comics, and Thy Kingdom Come as inspirations for his movie. We do at least know who's aboard Superman's starry ensemble however. Joining the aforementioned Corenswet and Hoult in Gunn's movie will be Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, and Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El — aka Supergirl. Also among the ensemble are Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Sean Gunn, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Isabel Merced, and Nathan Fillion.

After the DCEU's unceremonious ending last year with Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, Gunn — whose first DCU project Creature Commandos just got its first teaser trailer at Comic-Con — will be hoping to get his new-look DC Universe off to a flying start with the last son of Krypton's first solo movie since Zack Snyder's _Man Of Steel_over a decade ago. We'll find out whether Gunn sticks the landing when Superman hits cinemas on 11 July, 2025.
