Though it’s still being treated more as homage than straight reboot, the new take on Jacob’s Ladder wasn’t exactly greeted with jubilant enthusiasm when it was announced back in July. Still, things have moved on for the movie, with The Wrap bringing news that Glengarry Glen Ross **and House Of Cards director James Foley is attached to guide it.
Rather than retelling the psychologically troubling tale of a Vietnam vet (Tim Robbins) who tries to figure out his past even as he’s haunted by increasingly strange hallucinations, this take will apparently focus on new situations and characters, but maintain the existential themes. Which rather does make us wonder why it’s called Jacob’s Ladder at all, and doesn’t just pick a new name.
Foley, at least, has a solid résumé behind him, though it remains to be seen what he does with the script from Midnight Meat Train’s Jeff Buhler. LD Entertainment is hoping it can overcome any negative feeling assuming, of course, that it makes it to screens.
