James Cameron Discusses Avatar 2

The likes of Christopher Nolan and Ridley Scott like to keep their works in progress top secret, but James Cameron has so far always seemed willing to drop tidbits of info about his Avatar sequels. We already knew he was writing Avatars 2 and **3 **together for a back-to-back shoot, and that we'd be visiting Pandora's oceans and some other moons of the Polyphemus system, but Cameron has just gone into a little bit more detail about the intended Avatar future.

Of the oceans, Cameron told ABC News "That's an ecosystem that I'm dying to start designing because it's going to look spectacular. Avatar 2 narrows the spotlight to focus a little more on ocean issues instead of just nature in general or the rainforest. We have a planet that's a blue planet. From a distance, when you look at it, the Earth is a lot more blue than land mass. We're making the oceans unsurvivable for a lot of the species right now, so this is a way to focus a little energy in that direction."

It's not all about hand-wringing though. "It still has to be entertainment first and foremost," says Cameron. "I'm not going to double the environmental content in ths second film just because we got away with some the first time. I think it's just a continuation of the same thing. I want people to feel that same sense of excitement and discovery of a new world."

Speaking of new worlds, Cameron reiterates that, "There will be other planets as well, besides Pandora. It will be a cornucopia, a treat for the eyes!" Credit where credit's due though: "I get to imagine things at a kind of fuzzy level and then I bring in a lot of great artists and they come up with all the amazing creatures and plants and that sort of thing."

The Avatar sequels are currently set for Christmas releases in 2014 and 2015. And in the meantime, there's always the theme park.
