As Netflix intensifies its efforts to become more of a player in film acquisition and distribution, it's entering more bidding wars for projects. Deadline reports that the company is looking to buy the rights to The Helicopter Heist, which has Jake Gyllenhaal attached to produce and star.

The drama would be based on the real-life story of the Västberga helicopter robbery, which took place in Stockholm in 2009. A gang used a stolen Jet Ranger chopper to land on the roof of a G4S cash service depot in Sweden and made off with more than $5 million, with police pursuit thwarted by decoy bombs placed on the roof. For all its cleverness, though, it didn't quite end smoothly: seven of the perpetrators were eventually caught and sentenced.

Still, it'll make for a cracking crime tale and Gyllenhaal's Nine Stories production company is adapting Jonas Bonnier's book about the case, which is still in manuscript form.

As for Gyllenhaal, he'll be back on our screens in Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals, due here on 4 November. And he's already worked on one movie that Netflix will release, Bong Joon-Ho's creature feature Okja.
