While the concept has been used at least once before in the similar The Call starring Halle Berry, The Guilty, by Sweden's Gustav Möller, is now returning in more direct remake form with a new take featuring Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead. And the first teaser trailer is online...

With Antoine Fuqua directing and True Detective's Nic Pizzolatto adapting the script, the film takes place over the course of a single morning in a 911 dispatch call center. Call operator Joe Baylor (Gyllenhaal) tries to save a caller in grave danger — but he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out.

Möller is an executive producer on the film, but it remains to be seen how the new one compares to his 2018 version, which won the World Cinema Award at Sundance and was shortlisted for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2019 Oscars.

The Guilty (2021)

The Guilty – the Gyllenhaal film – will be out in select cinemas in the States from 24 September and lands on Netflix on 1 October.
