Following this past February's Patriots Day, which followed the law enforcement aftermath of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, here comes the first trailer for Stronger, starring Jake Gyllenhaal in the story of one of the attendees directly affected.
Stronger, which finds John Pollono adapting Jeff Bauman and Bret Witter's book for director David Gordon Green, follows Bauman, a 27-year-old working class Boston native who was at the finish line of the marathon with a sign, hoping to win back his ex-girlfriend Erin (Tatiana Maslany), who was competing.
When the blast occurs, Jeff loses both legs in the attack, and must deal with a long, painful road to finding a life afterwards. He's able to help identify one of the bombers and is hailed as a hero, even as he struggles with his own issues.
From the looks of this first footage, the film is looking to play our heartstrings with a violin bow, but the cast is certainly a good one. Stronger has a 22 September release date scheduled for the States, but we're still waiting to find out when it'll arrive here.
