We already know that The Predator has a strong connection to the 1987 original thanks to the presence of co-writer/director Shane Black, who famously appeared in the Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi classic. Now Jake Busey has let slip that there will also be a fun link to 1990 sequel Predator 2.
The follow-up was originally intended to bring Schwarzenegger's Dutch back, hunting the fresh Predator threat as the newly arrived creature roamed Los Angeles making kills. But when he passed on the job, the role was re-written to be special agent Peter Keyes (Gary Busey), who tracked the threat also causing trouble for Danny Glover's LAPD veteran Mike Harrigan.
It – spoiler alert! – didn't end well for Peter, but it looks like his son, to be played by the younger Busey in Black's new film, will have his own experience with the extra-terrestrial terror. "Shane Black called me and he said, 'Hey, you wanna do this movie? We don’t have money for you but it’ll be a fun thing to come play and be your father’s son,'" Busey says in the video you can find below courtesy of Pop Culture. "And so as much as I have followed in my Dad’s footsteps career-wise, this is like really following in his footsteps by playing a character who is the son of the character he played. And I don’t think there would be any other forum where I would do that. I think this is the one thing."
The Predator has now wrapped filming and will be out in the UK on 10 August next year.
