It's always exciting when another actor turns writer-director. Will they go all Clint Eastwood on us? Or are we going to be running screaming from the cinema in horror, as in most recent Ed Burns efforts? Well, Jada Pinkett Smith is taking the plunge next, so let's hope it's the former. The pint-sized starlet has written and is set to direct The Human Contract, with a cast already lined up and production starting this week.

The film's about a highly successful "but personally tortured" businessman (Jason Clarke, who you may remember from Brotherhood, Rabbit Proof Fence or, if you're really geeky, from four episodes of Farscape). He meets a "free-spirited beauty" (Paz Vega, who you might remember from Spanglish but who you're better off remembering in Talk To Her). She encourages him to explore reckless love, and we're sure that everyone learns a valuable lesson as a result.

A certain Will Smith is one of the producers (Nepotism! Nepotism!) and we can expect to see this in late 2008, all going well. But what do you think, readers? Does Jada have the chops to make it as a director?
