Following his star turn in the big budget remake of Shaft, Samuel L. Jackson is to take on the role of another, somewhat less iconic, lawman. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jackson will star in No Good Deed, a big-screen adaptation of the Dashiell Hammett thriller, The House On Turk Street. Jackson will play a San Francisco detective who, while he's about to take a much-needed holiday, chances upon a group of crooks, led by Milla Jovovich as the cunning Elvira and Dancer In The Dark's Stellan Skarsgard. Hammett's original 1924 novel predated his classic thriller The Maltese Falcon and features a tense storyline in which the villains try to outwit each other and the law at every turn. The script will be handled by Christopher Canaan, who created the camp Chuck Norris TV vehicle, Walker: Texas Ranger, while The Postman Always Rings Twice helmer Bob Rafelson is onboard to direct. Shooting on the project will begin in Montreal in July and is expected to last eight weeks.
