An unusually high number of London's society gals were in evidence at last night's world premiere of 51st State. It didn't take a genius to work out which of the cast members they were there for, and when Samuel L. Jackson arrived at the Curzon cinema in Mayfair, it was clear that the star of the show had arrived. Copying the fashion set by his character in the movie, Jackson looked respendent in his kilt and sporran - 'I've been wearing it Scottish-style,' he told reporters. When Empire Online asked him whether the golfing element had been put in the script to lure him in, Jackson told us; 'I have no idea know what Stel's idea was. [Golf] was just there - it was one of the elements - a guy walking around with his golf bag all the time, and luckily I play golf.' Although he's in town to shoot some pick-up shots for Episode II, Jackson was unusually tongue-tied over how it was going. 'Pretty good,' was all he would say. The star now has a brief holiday before re-teaming with John Travolta in the John McTiernan movie Basic. 'We don't start for another two weeks,' he told us.' Speaking to other members of the cast, it was clear they were all card-carrying Jackson fanclub members. 'Hats off and kilts down to him,' was co-star Rhys Ifans pithy comment. Emily Mortimer described Jackson as 'a professional starer, he could stare anybody under the table.'
