Peter Jackson and his editing team are deep into work on the second Hobbit film, The Desolation Of Smaug, and are in fact about to start cutting together the third, There And Back Again. Recently, Jackson hosted a live Q&A event in which they tackled questions about the two new movies. Now a snippet is online and can be watched below.
In the clip, Jackson takes questions from a fan in the US and then entertains a puzzling, fact-packed query from Tolkien mega-nerd and comedy news host Stephen Colbert.
Among the issues discussed are tackling the second movie in a trilogy again, the status of various elves and which new wild lands we might see in the remaining films.
On his Facebook page, Jackson makes mention of the room that the event footage is shot in. “Jabez (Olssen) and I sit in that editing room all day, everyday, editing the second Hobbit movie, and we actually start on the third next week! A lot of that movie was shot nearly a year ago, so I'm looking forward to seeing it come alive, shot-by-shot in the cutting room. It's like assembling one of those complex 2000-piece jigsaw puzzles.”
As for the full event, you can access it using a code found in the packaging for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on Blu-ray and DVD. Be warned that it might not work after May 24...
The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug hits cinemas on December 13. An image of Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel has come online, which you can see below.
