Emmy winner Michael Imperioli from The Sopranos is playing the part of a detective in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of The Lovely Bones for DreamWorks.

The story based on Alice Sebold’s bestseller is about a teenage girl who is murdered. From heaven she observes the people left behind, witnessing the effects of her death on them, while her killer covers his tracks preparing to hit back.

Imperioli’s part Len Fenerman is the detective in charge of the investigation of the girl’s death. Big names already cast include Rachel Weisz, Ryan Gosling, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci and Atonement’s newcomer Saoirse Ronan as Susie, the murdered girl.

Peter Jackson who directs the film has written the screenplay in collaboration with Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh as well as producing it with Carolynne Cunningham, Aimee Peyronnet and Walsh. Filming will start in October in Pennsylvania and New Zealand.
