Sing with us: Lev-y and Jack-man, sitting in a tree, f-i-l-m-m-a…. Well, it doesn’t work brilliantly, but it’s true: the director and star behind DreamWorks’ upcoming robot boxing pic Real Steel are clearly such bessie pals now that they’ll take any chance to work together. And though no offers have gone out, Levy apparently wants Jackman to star in Fantastic Voyage.
You’ll likely recall that Levy was hired to get the Voyage remake afloat at 20th Century Fox back in February. James Cameron is producing the film, which will end up getting shot in 3D from a script by Shane Salerno and Laeta Kalogridis.
Adapted from the 1966 original about scientists miniaturised and injected with a submarine into a man’s body to save his life, the fresh take on the tale apparently features a dramatic love story. Though hopefully this doesn’t mean a heroic leading man in a space suit romancing a white blood cell.
Though Levy hasn’t 100% locked in to make Voyage his next gig, you’ve got to figure that the presence of Cameron and his solid relationship with Fox would have pushed it higher up his To-Do list than some of the other hundred projects he’s got sitting in development. The film itself is still waiting for a green light to shift into pre-production, with a new draft of the screenplay expected soon, according to Deadline.
And if he can score Jackman – with whom he’s also developing another, untitled action script that has Lost co-creator Carlton Cuse pounding away on his keyboard – Levy would likely pull the trigger on taking the Voyage.
For his part, Jackman is still trying to pull The Wolverine together, a situation not helped by losing director Darren Aronofsky and the tragic destruction wreaked by the recent earthquakes and tsunami in Japan. While he hasn't responded to every offer that came his way recently (see: Snow White and the Huntsman) Voyage could always work as a stopgap until he can get Logan back on track…
