Back in the ‘70s, there was a brief tradition of films like Kentucky Fried Movie, which blended lots of actors in several sketches stitched together. These days, the portmanteau film tends to be more in the romantic genre - like New York, I Love You – but 17 directors have been hired by Relativity Media to bring back the funny.
According to Deadline Hollywood, filmmakers such as Peter Farrelly, Elizabeth Banks, Brett Ratner, Bob Odenkirk and Griffin Dunne have all contributed segments to the film, which currently doesn’t have a title.
And who is starring in the thing? Try Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Gerard Butler, Naomi Watts, Liev Schreiber, Johnny Knoxville, Seann William Scott, Emma Stone, Matt Walsh, Tony Shalhoub, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Kieran Culkin, Kick-Ass’ Chloe Moretz and Patrick "Big Blue Bug of Justice" Warburton… Weep for the publicist who tries to get that lot together for a junket!
The project has been bouncing around the studios for a while now, with producer Charles Wessler trying to get it set up at Paramount but being shown the door when the studio decided that the strictly R-rated movie wouldn’t work with their family-friendly focus. Overture Films got it next, but now Relativity’s Ryan Kavanaugh has taken in the orphan pic like a cinematic Daddy Warbucks.
Given that it’s being shot in chunks when the various directors and actors have time, a release date is anyone’s guess. Still, we’re more up for a rude comedy sketch film than another set of loosely connected stories featuring mopey people in love across a city.
