It's official — Christopher Nolan has chosen The Prestige as his next project, and is currently in talks with both Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman to star.
The story has been adapted by Chris' brother Jonathan (who also penned the story for Memento), from a novel by British sci-fi author Christopher Priest, who, you may or may not know, penned such novels as A Dream Of Wessex, and Fugue For A Darkening Island.
The story concerns two rival magicians at the turn of 20th century London, who, in an ongoing battle to discover each other's secrets, resort to murder.
If all goes to plan, this will be Bale's second teaming with Nolan, C., after their hugely successful collaboration for Batman Begins. Production is set to start in January, on a budget of $40 million.
This places the project above The Exec, which the Nolan brothers were also considering commencing. No start date has been given for that project.
