After finally emerging properly from limbo with the hiring of Joe Carnahan to re-write the script and direct, Sony's action movie Five Against A Bullet is moving into the casting stage. Jackie Chan is the first person joining the film.
Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura brought the project to the studio five years ago, with a script by Alex Litvak (Predators). It’s the story of a Mexican politician whose father is slaughtered by a drug cartel. In order to stay alive during a campaign to clean up his local area, the canny politico hires the five best bodyguards available.
Chan will be one of those protecting the main man, and we can think of few people we'd want watching our backs: he's a skillful martial artist and knows how to take injuries. Variety's story offers no update on when this one might start shooting (Carnahan is also attached to make the new Bad Boys film), but at least there is some forward movement on this one.
Before it happens, Chan will lend his voice to The Lego Ninjago Movie (due 13 October) and is co-starring in The Foreigner, which has yet to confirm a release.
