The ranks of the rodent army in performance capture fantasy adaptation Mouse Guard continue to swell. The latest actor entering talks to join up is Jack Whitehall.

Mouse Guard, adapted by Gary Whitta, was originally published by Archaia and Boom! Studios. David Petersen's title is set in a medieval world and tells of an order of mice who are the sworn protectors of their realm, seeing off foxes, eagles and threats from other rodents.

Wes Ball is directing the film, which already boasts Andy Serkis (as a loyal blacksmith turned antagonist), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (as a heroic young fighter), Idris Elba (as a wise mentor figure who has been missing for some time), Sonoya Mizuno (as a fellow guard member) and Samson Kayo (as the playful Saxson).

It's the latter that Whitehall will interact with most, playing Kenzie, the calm and measured staff wielder who works alongside Saxson. The Mouse Guard cameras will begin rolling next month.

Whitehall has been seeing his cinematic star rise of late, scoring work in films such as Jungle Cruise (24 July next year) and the TV adaptation of Good Omens, due on Amazon on 31 May.
