It’s been a bumper year for John Krasinski. Fresh from scaring the life out of cinemagoers as the director, writer and star of A Quiet Place, his next move involves taking on a major franchise and reincarnating one of the best-known heroes of page and screen. He’ll be the fifth actor to play Tom Clancy’s CIA analyst Jack Ryan in Amazon’s upcoming series – a rare action hero who does play by the rules.
The eight-part series, which arrives later this summer, will initially act as a prequel to Clancy’s books with Ryan as a relatively new CIA recruit — who will go on to become the more experienced character of the books. Empire has an exclusive new image of Krasinski as Ryan and The Wire’s Wendell Pierce as James Greer.
“It was not a hard choice for me,” Krasinski told Empire about taking the role. “I’ve been a big fan of Jack Ryan since I was about ten, when I saw Hunt for Red October. It didn’t feel normally blockbuster to me, even at that age. It felt smart.”
Jack Ryan will arrive on Amazon Prime Video on 31 August. Read more about it in Empire’s August issue, on sale now{
