Just last week, we reported that long-gestating Seth Grahame-Smith novel adaptation Pride And Prejudice And Zombies** was moaning, groaning and shuffling its way back to active development. As part of the story, we noted that Boardwalk Empire’s Jack Huston was in talks to join the madness. Those talks were clearly successful, because he now has a deal to play Mr. Wickham.
For those needing their memories jogged, the film will tackle a mash up of Jane Austen’s classic tale of manners and moods with zombie action. Lily James will play heroine Elizabeth Bennett, who must split her time between the romantic attentions and grumpy boorishness of Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley) and fighting off legions of the “sorry stricken” AKA the undead. Bella Heathcote, meanwhile, will be one of the Bennett sisters. Wickham will apparently be in favour of training zombies to fight in wars, though we can see how that could go very wrong for all involved.
After years of changing hands and development limbo, the film finally appears to be in gear with Burr Steers is directing the current draft of the script, which he wrote. With luck, cameras should be rolling next month.
