You may not be aware of this, but scientists have spent years trying to figure out if too much comedy talent in one place could deform the universe as we know it. Preliminary tests on Anchorman suggested that it could interfere with the laws of relativity, but those big-headed boffins are determined to push the envelope, and with that in mind have assembled a ridiculous amount of the funny stuff for Columbia's new film Year One.
Never-knowingly-underzanied Jack Black has just signed on to star in the film, which is being produced by none-currently-funnier Judd Apatow, whose Knocked Up is currently doing rather well at the US box office. But writing and directing is Harold "Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day" Ramis (who, incidentally, cameos in Knocked Up), with some writing assistance from The Office (US) writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg.
Owen "even my nose is funny" Wilson is executive producing. And as if that weren't enough, MIchael Cena, aka George MIchael Bluth, aka the best thing to come out of Arrested Development and that's saying something, is co-starring.
There's no word yet on the story, except that it's based on an original idea of Ramis', so we're going to have to make up our own. We're seeing this as a comedy spin on Frank Miller's Batman: Year One comic, with an overweight and hirsute Bruce Wayne (Black) and sarky, insecure Robin (Cena) beginning the fight against crime in Gotham. Or, you know, possibly not.
But one thing's for sure - if there's any justice in the world this film will make us laugh so much our heads fall off. Let's hope that those scientists have sufficient shielding to study the outcome in safety.
