Crooning talents on show for Linklater's latest

Actor-cum-rocker, Jack Black, will finally get the chance to combine his two vocations in an upcoming project with Dazed and Confused director, Richard Linklater. Often seen tearing up the stage with his band, Tenacious D, Black will get to wield his ax for the camera in School of Rock. The sardonic star of Shallow Hal and Orange County will play a musician who sidelines as a substitute teacher, taking the opportunity to bring some rock 'n' roll to the preppy, private school where he's teaching. While we're not entirely convinced when musicians use movies as vanity projects to show off their warblings, Black is first and foremost an actor, so we might just be prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt. Besides, his show-stealing turn in High Fidelity earns him more than a little slack. Let's just not make a habit out of it though, if Russell Crowe starts dragging 30 Odd Foot of Grunt into his next picture, Empire Online will be heading straight for the door.
