J-Lo’s Monster-In-Law

Jennifer Lopez has often stated that romantic comedies are her favourite type of movie but her dabblings in the genre have always been a little hit-and-miss. Much as it pains us to say it, old J-Lo is actually a rather good actress when she puts her mind to it but her skills are rarely showcased in the saccharine smoochfests that she will insist on sprinkling across her CV. Her potentially slated project Monster-In-Law doesn't seem likely to break the cycle either. Lopez is currently in negations to take a starring role in the film, which will see her as an unlucky-in-love gal (snooze) who finally finds her perfect man only to discover that he has the mother from hell and she's determined to split them up. Not the kind of material that's likely to stretch her as an artist really. Come on J-Lo, we know you're keen to become Meg Ryan's heir apparent as rom-com queen but there's more to life than hearts and chocolates. Admittedly some of her less sweet and fluffy roles haven't exactly gone as planned (Anaconda anyone?) but for every critic who slammed The Cell and its ilk, there were ten who raved over Out of Sight - arguably her finest work to date.
