Ivy Chronicles For Parker

OMG. SJP has lined up her first project since SATC!

Sorry for the acronym attack there, readers. In plain English, Sarah Jessica Parker is set to take the lead role in The Ivy Chronicles, a comedy which will mark her first movie since this summer’s Sex And The City proved to be the biggest single landmark in female empowerment since Carol Vorderman started properly co-hosting Countdown, instead of just being the big brain doing the sums.

Anyway, Parker is clearly keen to strike while the iron’s hot, with executives at Warner Bros. clearly of the belief that the $300 million that SATC has so far chalked up at the box office can almost entirely be attributed to Parker and not, for example, a hugely recognisable and attractive brand name. But we digress.

Warners were so keen to get Parker on board that they apparently offered her a choice of projects, before the actress settled on The Ivy Chronicles, which has been described as being in a similar vein to The Devil Wears Prada (which is good), and The Nanny Diaries (which is not). It’s also a comedy about class and a single woman living in New York, which sounds familiar to us…

Parker will play Ivy Ames, a New York businesswoman who loses everything and is forced to – horror! – rent a downmarket apartment and pull her children out of private school. Galvanised into action, she starts a business to help upper-middle-class women get their children into elite kindergartens.

Hmm… sounds intriguing. Let’s hope that there are satirical overtones, otherwise it might be hard to root for a heroine who’s up in arms about having to move into a smaller apartment. Still, we like SJP, and wish her well. Now, where’s Kristin Davis’ movie deal, Warners? Chop chop – it isn’t all about Carrie, you know!
