Ivan Reitman Picks Draft Day

Ah! American rugby-ball-sports thing! The roar of the crowd! The smell of the turf! The crunching of bones! Or something. The National Football League remains a huge institution across the pond. Numerous movies have been made about the subject, but that never seems to stop anyone trying to pump out new ones, with Paramount buying up a spec script called Draft Day that boasts Ivan Reitman attached.

Written by Rajiv Joseph and Scott Rothman, the plot finds the manager of a struggling team called the Buffalo Bills (wonder if the team is ordered to put the lotion in the basket after games in the locker room?) trying to nail the number one pick on the titular day. If you have no idea what that means, it would be like someone snagging the services of… er… insert the name of a really good football player here... on transfer deadline day.

Reitman is producing, as well as planning to direct, and will put the script into development. The writers have been doing well for themselves, with Joseph working on Nurse Jackie and ending up on the Pulitzer shortlist in 2010 for his acclaimed play Bengal Tiger At The Baghdad Zoo. Rothman, meanwhile, has at least two scripts currently floating down the mighty rivers of old Developmentia.
