UPDATE: In addition to Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu are also joining the film, with the story described as "a group of young people on a distant world find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe**.**"
The most recent challenge that Isabela Merced faced was to her romantic life in Rosaline. She'll face an entirely different level of threat in a new project, as she's joining Fede Álvarez' Alien movie.
Cailee Spaeny is aboard to star in the movie, which is still being kept in the dark aside from the fact that it'll feature the usual assortment of xenomorphs and their associated terrors.
Alvarez wrote the new film, and is at work on it, with Alien overlord Ridley Scott producing. It won't directly connect with either the original movies or Scott's prequel films, but it is set in the same universe.
As for Merced, she'll be seen in John Green adaptation Turtles All The Way Down and is part of the cast for Spider-Man-adjacent Sony title Madame Web, due out on 16 February next year.
