In the wake of the collapse of its much-vaunted Dark Universe idea, Universal is going back to basics for its monster movies, handing separate characters off to filmmakers who have their own plans for the characters. Insidious/Upgrade's Leigh Whannell is tackling The Invisible Man and Aldis Hodge will be part of the cast.

Hodge's role is currently unknown, nor are there details on what spin Whannell intends to put on the character. But with Elisabeth Moss and Storm Reid in the cast, there have been hints that it'll take a gender-swapped approach to the title.

With Blumhouse involved, the film is scheduled to start shooting next month in Sydney, as the studio hopes that a lower budget approach can win out where the big spectacle likes of The Mummy couldn't. The Invisible Man is due for release next March.

Hodge, meanwhile, will be seen in Sundance-acclaimed drama Clemency and has a role in TV drama City On A Hill, which has just started on the Showtime network across the pond.
