Like a Death Race/Running Man hybrid, **Gamer **shows a distopian near future where video gamers control a band of real life fighters in the shape of death-row prisoners (sound familiar yet?).
Invented by ruthless recluse billionaire Ken Castle (Dexter's Michael C. Hall), the mind-controlled first-person Slayer technology has singled out main man Kable (Butler) and his talented teenage player Simon (Logan Lerman) as the ones to beat.
But, of course, Kable isn't meant to be in the ultraviolent game, having been unjustly taken from his wife and family, and he must fight his way back to freedom, saving the world from the dehumanising technology on his way. Natch. Where is The Stath when you need him, eh?
