Here's another release (and another sequel) for that insanely over-packed 2015. You might have supposed a horror movie would go over well around October , but perhaps with the prospect of Bond 24 likely sweeping away all in its path that month, Film District has opted to place Insidious: Chapter 3 at the other end of the year, on April 5.
What's the movie? Good question; we don't really know yet. Leigh Whannell, writer of the first two Insidiouses (Insidii?) is back for screenplay duties, with Jason Blum and Oren Peli producing via their Blumhouse banner. With James "Fast 7" Wan drawing a line under his horror career for the time being, after this year's one-two punch of The Conjuring and Insidious: Chapter 2, we're unlikely to see him directing.
The situation in front of the camera is also unclear. We could be looking at further problems with The Further for the beleaguered Lamberts (Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins). Or failing that, we could shift the focus elsewhere, following paranormal investigators Specs and Tucker (Whannell and Angus Sampson) on to a new case. The latter scenario might clash with the proposed **Conjuring **sequel, however, which itself is likely a fresh scenario for exorcist detectives The Warrens.
It's all pure speculation for the time being then, but what's certainly true is that Insidious and its sequel are sitting on combined box office of $245m from a combined budget of $7m. With those numbers, more chapters really are inevitable.
