James Wan is definitely on a hot streak this year, despite both of his films chilling audiences to the core. With **The Conjuring **already a bona fide smash, now his other horror for 2013, sequel Insidious Chapter 2, has enjoyed a strong launch at the US box office with $41 million.
That was easily enough to pummel the only other new wide arrival, Luc Besson’s latest, action-comedy The Family. Despite boasting the presence of Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer, the film limped home with $14.5 million. Riddick was pushed down to third place, taking home $7 million, while **Lee Daniels’ The Butler **slipped from second to fourth with $5.5 million. In fifth was We’re The Millers, which earned $5.4 million.
Latino comedy** Instructions Not Include**d fell to sixth with $4.2 million, ahead of Planes in seventh with $3 million. At eighth was One Direction: This Is U****s, earning $2.4 million and Elysium was ninth, taking in $2 million. Rounding out the top 10 was Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters, which made $1.8 million this weekend.
