Tim "The Toolman" Allen is all set to make his feature directing debut with Crazy On The Outside, a comedy about a parolee from prison who goes to live with his eccentric sister and has trouble adjusting to life outside.
Allen, who has previously only ever directed an episode of his show Home Improvement back in the day, is set to star in the film, and is in talks with Carrie-Anne Moss, Kelsey Grammer, Ray Liotta and Julie Bowen (Lost, Boston Legal) to join him.
The script is by veteran sitcom screenwriters Judd Pillot and John Peaslee, who we're guessing bonded over having the same initials, and is set to start shooting this month in LA.
It's good to see Allen trying some comedy aimed at adults, rather than the usual "I'm-turning-into-a-dog / ghost / Father Christmas" schtick. But then, this may be part of a wider change of direction for him - he's also recently finished work on David Mamet's Redbelt and relationships comedy The Six Wives Of Henry Lefay. But do we reckon he can direct? Surely the ability to wield dangerous power tools should help him though, right?
