Time to paraphrase Hugo Weaving’s Agent Smith in a blatant cross-franchise bit of punnery! “You hear that Dr. Jones? That is the sound of inevitability... It is the sound of your films getting converted to the third dimension…” Yes, we bet you sort of knew this news might be on the way after George Lucas finally announced dates for the **Star Wars **series hitting 3D, but it would appear that the Indiana Jones films could be next on the list for some digital dimensional tinkering.
Nothing official has been announced yet (it’s Lucasfilm; you were expecting them to confirm a rumour before they’re ready?), so you probably need a dash or two of salt at the ready, but according to Blue Sky Disney’s sources, Indy’s adventures are being lined up for the conversion process.
But while the Wars movies are Lucas’ to fiddle with lock, stock and barrel, the Indy series sees him sharing parentage with Steven Spielberg. We’re not convinced the director will be so quick to jump on the conversion bandwagon, even given that he's diving deep into 3D filming with Tintin and the Secret of the Unicorn.
Still, Lucas’ influence will no doubt be felt. Expect the usual round of denials before the big press release, because given their standard operating procedures, Lucasfilm is the corporate equivalent of The Vicar of Dibley’s Jim Trott…
