Another principal cast member has been added to Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk's cast: William Hurt will play General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, joining Edward Norton as Bruce Banner, aka the big green guy himself, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross and Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky, aka The Abomination.
Some further plot tidbits have also been released for the film. General Ross (and let's give him props for overcoming a potentially unfortunate first name with a kick-ass nickname) is still on the Hulk's trail. Apparently the film will see Banner on the run, trying desperately to find a cure for the condition that turns him into a monster, while General Ross tries to hunt him down - not least because his daughter Betty is still making goo-goo eyes at the angry green giant.
Going by that synopsis, this could play as an almost-sequel rather than a sort-of-remake, but it remains to be seen how much they alter or re-run events from Ang Lee's film.
One thing's for certain - The Incredible Hulk is putting up some serious competition to Iron Man in the Highest Quality Cast Of A Comic Book Movie Ever steeplechase. Hurt's one Oscar and three nominations add to Norton's two and Roth's one for five nominations and a win, giving the Iron Man cast's collection (we make it six noms and a win: one nod apiece for Robert Downey Jr and Terrence Howard, a win for Gwyneth Paltrow and four nominations for Jeff Bridges) a real run for their money. Still, all to play for - one of them might bag sound editor Kevin O'Connell and his 18 nominations, or John Williams with 45 (and 5 wins), and it'd be game over, man, game over.
