While not unique to these shores, there is a particular blend of heartwarming second-chance-at-life comedy that seems to be a speciality for British filmmakers. The latest film to fit into that comfy spot is Finding Your Feet, which brings the talents of Imelda Staunton, Celia Imrie, Timothy Spall and more to bear. See the trailer.
Finding Your Feet sees Staunton as the slightly snooty
"Lady" (emphasis: hers) Sandra Abbott, who, while celebrating her husband of 40 years (John Sessions)' retirement, discovers he's been having an affair with her best friend.
Stunned, and needing somewhere to figure things out, she finds refuge with her estranged, bohemian older sister Bif (Imrie), a woman who couldn't be more different from Sandra if she tried. But could the change in scenery and dynamic be just what Sandra needs? Especially when she joins a community dance class and potential new romance with Charlie (Spall)? THAT WOULD BE A BIG SPOILER BUT PROBABLY.
Richard Loncraine is in the director's chair for this one, which also stars Joanna Lumley, David Hayman and Josie Lawrence. It'll be in UK cinemas this October.
