Though the movie itself is in the can, the *Sonic The Hedgehog* sequel's reliance on CG characters means that there's still news to come about voice cast. And director Jeff Fowler has landed a big name for the character of Knuckles: Idris Elba.
The news arrives via Elba's own twitter feed (see the post below), with the actor likely delighting fans who had hoped he might take on the voice.
Knuckles, a strong red echidna with spiked knuckles and martial arts skills debuted as an antagonist in 1994’s Sonic The Hedgehog 3 before befriending Sonic and Tails and becoming a protagonist in his own right in 1995’s Sonic & Knuckles. Quite what he'll be up to in the movie remains to be seen.
Ben Schwartz is back to voice Sonic, with James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally and Jim Carrey returning in front of the camera and Shemar Moore joining the live-action cast. Sonic The Hedgehog 2 should be on UK screens on 8 April next year.
