There’s a bad news/good news situation for **Spring Breakers **director Harmony Korine, who no longer has the services of Jamie Foxx for his new revenge thriller, The Trap. The good news is that none other than John Loofah Idris Elba will step into the role instead, and that Robert Pattinson, James Franco and Al Pacino are also all set, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Trap, set deep in the Miami music scene, finds Benicio Del Toro playing Rico, a man who has been in prison for 14 years, simmering with resentment against the rapper and former friend Slim (Elba) who let him take the fall. Upon his release, he recruits a surfer (Pattinson) to help him get revenge.
Franco, who played Alien for Korine in Spring Breakers, will here by Elba’s drug-addled manager while Pacino is on board as Del Toro’s parole officer. Korine should be gearing up to shoot soon.
Elba reportedly shows up briefly as Heimdall in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, due in UK cinemas on May 23. He’s also worked on Beasts Of No Nation, A Hundred Streets, Bastille Day, Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book and is voicing a character in Pixar’s Finding Dory. He’ll also be back on duty as Luther in new episodes of the police drama. Franco is shooting his latest directing/starring effort In Dubious Battle, while Pattinson will be seen in Queen Of The Desert and Life. Pacino, meanwhile, is in Danny Collins, which arrives here on May 29.
