Idris Elba increasingly spends time behind the cameras as much as he does in front of them these days, usually producing projects he appears in. He's got a new show in the works for Netflix, preparing to start work on Turn Up Charlie.
Elba will play the titular Charlie, a struggling DJ and eternal bachelor whose life has not turned out the way he might have hoped. Then he gets a final chance at success, albeit not in the way he might have hoped: Charlie reluctantly becomes the manny for his famous best friend's problem child.
We can see Elba's own experience behind the decks playing into this one, though we don't yet know how much manny experience he has. Laura Neal, Femi Oyeniran, and Victoria Asare-Archer wrote the script, with Tristram Shapeero and Matt Lipsey on directorial duties. The cameras should be rolling next month.
Next up for Elba is a quick appearance as Heimdall in Avengers: Infinity War (due out next week), and he's also the director and producer of Yardie (in cinemas 24 August).
