He's currently busy causing trouble for Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as a villain named Brixton, on the set of Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs And Shaw. For a new film, Idris Elba will be doing something very different. Call it The Fast And The Furry-ous, as he's joining the cast of the Cats musical movie.
While we know that Ian McKellen is playing Gus the Theatre Cat and Jennifer Hudson will be the Memory-belting Grizabella, Elba has nabbed the role of the villanous MMcavity. He joins the likes of James Corden and Taylor Swiftin the movie. And it's not like Elba doesn't have feline form – he did, after all, play Shere Khan in 2016's The Jungle Book.
Tom Hooper is preparing to direct, adapting the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical alongside co-writer Lee Hall. Webber, of course, was inspired by TS Eliot's poetry collection Old Possum's Book Of Practical Cats.
Cats will be clawing its way to screens on 20 December next year. As for Elba, he has Netflix comedy drama series Turn Up Charlie in the works and will also be back as John Loooooooofah for Luther's next run of episodes, due next year.
