As if director Pierre Morel hadn’t already attracted enough quality actors in Sean Penn and Javier Bardem for The Gunman, there is now the distinct likelihood that Idris Elba will join them{
The action thriller, based on Jean-Patrick Manchette's novel, finds Penn play a lethal secret operative who gets betrayed by his organisation. That kicks off a cat-and-mouse chase across Europe as he seeks revenge against those who wronged him and his former employers decide to take him out.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Elba is now in talks to play a mysterious fellow operative called Dupont. Will he help our hero? Or will he be one of the people tracking him down?
With a script by Pete Travis, The Gunman is set to start shooting in Barcelona and other European cities later this month.
Elba will next be seen cancelling the apocalypse in Pacific Rim (out July 12) and returns to the role of Heimdall in Thor: The Dark World, which arrives here on October 30. There’s also biopic Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, which will grace our screens on January 3 next year.
