Is Ice Cube the new Clint Eastwood? Well, no. But in one way he might be, as the actor has picked up on an idea from his Three Kings director, David O Russell to star in a possible series of films about a quick-tempered ‘tec unafraid to break out the weaponry.
According to Deadline, Russell cooked up the idea with New Line boss Toby Emmerich and the two then brought it to Cube, who liked the idea of making a gritty cop drama in the style of Eastwood’s Dirty Harry.
Cube’s busy right now on something cop-related, playing a detective hunting down corrupt officers in Oren Moveman’s Rampart. And for his part, Russell’s schedule is loaded up with **Old St Louis **and video game adaptation Drake’s Fortun****e. Plus, they’re still coming up with the early concepts for the script. So it seems likely that they’ll track down a writer and get something started ready for when they both have time (assuming they don’t hand it off to someone else to direct).
If the first film, whenever it happens, is a success, expect this to become a recurring series. Which makes us happy, since while we understand he does well off them, anything that keeps Cube away from making more Are We There Yet-style comedies is good by us.
