Having employed the actor in I, Tonya, director Craig Gillespie is looking to team back up with scene-stealer Paul Walter Hauser in his next film, Disney's Cruella. If it all works out, Hauser will join Emma Stone, who is starring as the title character.

The script for this one has been through the predicable batch of re-writes, with the current draft credited to The Favourite's Tony McNamara. Not much is known about the story aside from that it's expected to explore the earlier years of the fur-loving villain from 101 Dalmatians and dig into what made her who she is by the time Pongo, Perdita and the rest of their canine brood cross her path. Hauser is up for the role of Roger, though whether that's supposed to be the same person who ends up owning the dogs remains to be seen.

Gillespie is preparing to shoot the film this September with a release date pencilled in for December 2020. Before he reports to the Cruella set, Hauser will star for Clint Eastwood in his latest true-life tale Richard Jewell.
