We’ve had vampires. Werewolves. Zombies. Demons. Faeries. Beasts of all stripes and allegiances have become staples for romantic themed young adult novels and their attendant film adaptations. So why not angels? LD Entertainment thinks that Becca Fitzpatrick’s best-selling Hush, Hush saga is ripe for moviefication.
For those unaware, Fitzpatrick’s four-novel series follows Nora Grey, an unhappy girl who meets a surly, mysterious student named Patch at her high school. Initially, the pair don’t get on, but Patch wins her over, and is eventually revealed to be a fallen angel with a dark secret. But through she falls for him, Nora finds herself in the middle of an ages-old conflict that could affect both heaven and Earth…
The story runs through the books Hush, Hush, Crescendo, Silence and Finale, which hit shelves recently. This won't be the only angel-related series entering development: Mortal Instruments is already due out next year, while Daughter Of Smoke And Bone has been optioned by Universal.
Now LD Entertainment, which helped Joe Carnahan pit Liam Neeson against wolves in The Grey, is hoping to turn it into the next big franchise. Patrick Sean Smith is adapting Hush, Hush and the producers hope to have it shooting by late 2013.
