Hurt Waves Wand For Harry

We may have reported the story last week that John Hurt would be playing a witch in the Harry Potter movie, but frankly the report - which originated in The Daily Telegraph - had us puzzled. So when Hurt loomed into our sights at the Empire Awards, it seemed the perfect opportunity to set the record straight. 'I'd have to be a wizard, not a witch,' admitted Hurt, but when we pressed him to name his character he said he 'couldn't possibly do that. Actually your magazine said that Derek Jacobi was playing the role... erroneously!' So it's Mr Ollivander, the wand seller in Diagon Alley, then? Hurt beamed broadly, but said only; 'I didn't tell you that.' Mystery solved.
