Hugh Jackman In Talks For X-Men: Apocalypse

With X-Men: Apocalypse once more focusing on the First Class X-Men rather than the original crew, there were questions in some quarters about whether Hugh Jackman's Wolverine would make an appearance. Those questions have not yet been definitively answered, but Jackman has just revealed that talks are certainly underway regarding his appearance or otherwise in the next instalment.

"There's still a lot unknown about that, actually," he told Josh Horowitz on The Happy Sad Podcast. "I have been speaking to the guys and I'm not at liberty to say exactly what's going on, [but] there are some very exciting things about integrating the whole X-Men world, including the Wolverine movie. There are some really cool things going on."

The last time we saw Logan in X-Men: Days Of Future Past (spoilerphobes look away now) he had woken up in a future timeline where everything was okay again. But the other younger Wolverine, earlier in his own personal timeline, had been taken into the custody of Mystique disguised as Stryker. So there's clearly plot to pick up in whichever time period we meet him next, should Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg choose to go there.

Also in the works, of course, is the third standalone Wolverine movie, which may itself choose to tug those threads. Again, Jackman can't say anything, other than to enthuse he's "very, very excited" and that he and writer David James Kelly are hard at work figuring it out.

If we had to take a punt we'd suggest we're looking at a cameo (although possibly a larger one than his three-word First Class gag) in Apocalypse leading into the full-blown Wolverine 3. But anything goes at this point. We will, of course, keep you posted.
